April showers are supposed to bring May flowers. And, even though we didn’t see that much rain in our area last month, things are still blooming and pollinating. As we take care of our final spring cleaning and yard clean-up, we look forward to spending time with the special friends and families in our lives. The month of May holds two of our treasured holidays—Mother’s Day and Memorial Day—times when we typically get together. These days honor loved ones while we also cherish memories of those who have dedicated their lives to serving and caring for others.
Mother’s Day is a time to honor and recognize the important women in our lives, whether they are mothers, grandmothers or simply mother figures. It is a day filled with love, gratitude and family memories. Many of us have cherished memories of cooking or baking in a kitchen filled with the aroma of fresh-baked cookies (or, in my case, lasagna and fresh bread), love and laughter. One of my fondest Mother’s Day memories is baking blueberry muffins with my older sister for our mom. I can still see our childhood kitchen in my mind whenever I smell them, and, to this day, we try to carry on the tradition. Gathering around the dining table for a meal and shared memories is a great way to celebrate the joy of being together as a family. With our area usually warm and sunny on Mother’s Day, a lot of people choose to enjoy the outdoors with cookouts, pool parties and backyard picnics. You can hear the littles playing in the yard while the smell of grilling food floats through the air.
Laughing adults come together to celebrate the special women in their lives. These women provide the foundation for the group of people we call family. Whether your thoughts go to the kitchen, dining room or outside, our homes provide the backdrop for creating cherished family memories of comfort, love and togetherness.
Memorial Day is also often associated with backyard picnics, public parades and private ceremonies. Remembering those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom is what this day is all about. We decorate our homes with flags, attend Memorial Day services or host friends and family with a cookout to honor those lost. Many in our community have encased service flags for their loved one and an empty chair at their table, because someone they cherished died in service to our country. Memorial Day is about showing gratitude for those who defended our freedom, our way of life, and in doing so, gave up their own. Please take some time this year to honor those who have fallen in service to our nation, protecting us and our homes.
Having a place to gather, to celebrate, to remember, create memories, dream dreams and raise families, that’s what it means to have a home. As a real estate professional, I understand the importance of home. My goal is to help my customers find more than a house; I want to help you find a home. We will work together to find a place for you to create your own cherished memories, whether it’s celebrating Mother’s Day or honoring the significance of Memorial Day. When you need me, I’m at your service.
