The Veterans Tribute Tower Committee is pleased to host the traditional Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Beal Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, November 11 beginning at 11 a.m. with guest speaker is Brigadier General Jeffrey T. Geraghty, Commander of Eglin AFB and the 96th Test Wing.
During this Veteran’s Day and joint Remembrance Day Recognition, the Veterans Tribute Tower Committee will welcome the participation of British Royal Navy Commander Chris Wilcox, and members of his command and their families stationed at Eglin Air Force Base.
More than 1800 Veterans are laid to rest at Beal Memorial Cemetery. The Cadets from Fort Walton Beach High School’s Air Force Jr. ROTC will support with color guard duties and to render military honors as they place flags on Veteran’s final resting places.
During the Ceremony, Veterans, local POWs and the late Brigadier General George E. Bud Day will be recognized as well as MIA, 1966 Choctaw Graduate, Special Forces Staff Sergeant and Fred Gassman. The life and work of Tuskegee Airman and the late Chief Master Sergeant, Walt Richardson, will be remembered.
Mr. Reid Soria from Autism Sings will sing the National Anthem, students from Liza Jackson School will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Gregg Chapel Pastor, the Reverend Cecil Williams, will give the Invocation, and Salvation Army Officer, Lieutenant James Milner will give the Benediction.
Attendees will have the opportunity to place floral bouquets in the community wreath during the ceremony. As a reminder, reading of the names of the departed will be done during the Memorial Day Ceremony in 2024.
If the weather does not cooperate Saturday morning at Beal Memorial Cemetery, the ceremony will be held at American Legion Post 235, at 105 Hollywood Boulevard at 11 a.m.
