Celebrating 30 years on the Emerald Coast, the Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) is started a new semester on January 15th in Fort Walton Beach. With over 90 classes and tours available, the CLL offers both locals and snowbirds an opportunity to continue learning and engaging with others who share similar interests.
CLL offers a wide range of courses including educational classes, arts and crafts, technology, yoga, dance, mindfulness, self-defense, current events, pickleball, and much, much more. These classes are designed to keep the minds sharp and bodies active while also providing an opportunity for socialization and community engagement.
One of the highlights this year is the addition of expert-guided tours in the local area. These tours are designed for people who want to explore the surrounding areas and learn more about our community. CLL President, Nicole Blatt, expressed her excitement stating “We are thrilled to offer our members the opportunity to discover new places and experiences so close to our home.”
As a vital part of the community, CLL was recognized this year by both Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa County writing Proclamations that declared Feb 16th as “CENTER FOR LIFELONG LEARNING DAY.”
Located on the University of West Florida Emerald Coast Campus in Fort Walton Beach, CLL is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization from the teachers, staff and even the Board of Directors. Membership and course fees go only to operating expenses, scholarships and charities. CLL is also a member of the Road Scholar Institute Network. As of 2023, CLL has provided over $30,000 in scholarships and $11,000 to charities.
Online registration is on-going and classes run January 15th – March 8th, 2024. Multi-week classes are $20 each and expert-guided tours are $10 each. Automatic membership is included for free when you sign up for a class/tour. Classes are held at UWF Emerald Coast Campus (FWB) and at various locations throughout Okaloosa County.
