The Florida College System announced that 10 Northwest Florida State College students are members of the 2023 All-Florida Academic Team – Yvonne Anderson, Ashley Andrews, Sean Arbuckle, Jackson Brazill, Gwendolyn Law, Lillian Nguyen, Jazlyn Polanco, Allyson Singer, Danielle Tomlin and Christopher York. The students were selected by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society and will be recognized at an awards ceremony March 31 in Orlando.
Students are nominated to the All-Florida Academic Team competition by their respective colleges in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership and service to the community. “Our Phi Theta Kappa students have earned this recognition with their exemplary service, leadership, and academic achievements,” said NWFSC President Dr. Devin Stephenson.

Jason Belcher, Chair of the OCSD Citizens Oversight Committee, addressed the School Board in February with a progress report of Half Cent Sales Tax spending and projects. Large projects currently in progress include: classroom additions being built at Crestview (8 classrooms), Elliott Point (8 classrooms), Laurel Hill (4 classrooms) and Silver Sands (4 classrooms); land for cafetoriums is being prepared and construction will begin soon at Edwins, Bob Sikes, Plew, Shalimar, Wright and Ruckel; and multipurpose buildings are under construction at Baker, Choctaw, Crestview, Fort Walton Beach and Niceville.
Join the Spring Pickleball Smash for Okaloosa Schools April 28-30 at the Mooney Tennis and Pickleball Courts at 713 Country Club Ave. in Fort Walton Beach. Funds raised will support the Okaloosa Public School Foundation’s Take Stock in Children scholarship program, which currently provides two-year college scholarships and one-on-one mentoring for sixty (60) academically deserving high school students from low-income families, as well as support the teacher grant program and promote overall student success through other initiatives. The Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to support and extend educational opportunities for all students within Okaloosa County. The Take Stock in Children scholarship program is one of the ways that is done. The funds raised for the program are matched dollar for dollar by the Florida Prepaid Scholarship Program, doubling the impact of any local contribution. There is an ambitious goal to increase the number of scholarship recipients to 100 students over the next five years.
