For over 19 years, Children in Crisis, a non-profit organization, has hosted a golf tournament to support a program that provides emergency shelter services for children who have been removed from their homes from the Department of Children and Families due to abuse, neglect, or other emergencies. The dedicated staff offer emergency shelter, housing, educational support and tutoring as well as counseling and emotional support.
This organization is committed to keeping brothers and sisters together, providing foster care for abused, neglected, and abandoned children. They work to recruit and support foster parents in the four-county are of Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.
Renamed the Ken Hair Charity Golf Classic for former CEO, Ken Hair, the shot-gun start for a four-person team, began on Friday, May 22 at 9 a.m. with a scramble format. This means only one person on the team has to hit a perfect drive off the team, or a second shot, a putt, etc. Your partner hits an errant shot into the woods? No problem. You won’t use that golf shot for sure!
Brunch, a golf shirt. a silent auction, and an awards party awaited all golfers upon return to the clubhouse. The weather was perfect in late spring with cloud cover and a slight breeze. So, no excuses for not hitting golf shots straight, or having balls find their way inside that ever so tiny hole on the putting green.
The winners were:
First place: David Schneeberger, Ken Isham, Bobby Massingill, Fred Wantland.
Second place: Bob Hollbrook, George Wall, Julius Turner, Bob Sivill
Third place: John Lewis, Hap Meadows, Sam Carelly, John Hargather
